GDPR

Also known as · General Data Protection Regulation

EU data protection law governing how personal data of EU residents is collected, stored, and processed.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the EU's data protection law, in effect since 2018. It requires explicit consent for personal data collection, the right to access and deletion, breach notification within 72 hours, and Data Protection Officer designation for some organizations. Penalties run up to €20M or 4% of global annual revenue — and apply to any business processing EU-resident data regardless of business location.
